PROF. ROBERT MOBLEY'S VISIT TO TURKEY ECHOED WITHIN THE DEAF COMMUNITY

Prof. Robert Mobley's, one of the prominent of sign language visit to Turkey echoed within the deaf community. Mobley, who addressed at the Turkish Hearing Association on the deafness and the usage of sign language, then debriefed by Ercüment Tanrıverdi, the President of the Turkish National Federation of the Deaf. 

After the briefing, Mobley stated that he has concentrated on the activities of the Turkish National Federation of the Deaf which he believes can be a good model for many countries. "Despite important achievements that Turkish National Federation of the Deaf has made for the deaf living in Turkey, you are not successful at introducing these activities. Therefore what you need to do is to introduce these activities not only in Turkey, but also abroad. I mentioned your activities when I was in China and India. I urged them to establish a similar model. I hope the social, political, economic and cultural steps will be taken that will improve the living standards of deaf. We are at the beginning of this process, yet we have achieved more than it had been expected in order to provide a better life to deaf all over the world", Mobley added.

During the negotiations, Prof. Mobley also agreed on to support Turkish National Federation of the Deaf's sign language activities. In order to fulfill this, he is going to visit Turkey whenever his assistance is needed. It's expected that as being one of the leading figures of sign language, Mobley's assistance will accelerate and improve activities regarding the Turkish Sign Language.
